The Austin area will need more than 100,000 additional apartment units by 2035 to keep up with demand according to an Austin Business Journal article1. A study commissioned by the National Apartment Association and the National Multifamily Housing Council found that Austin was the No. 1 metro in the nation for apartment demand. According to the NAA, there simply is not enough housing in the Austin area or nationwide. The U.S. must build 3.7 million new apartments just to meet future demand, on top of a 600,000 unit deficit and loss of 4.7 million affordable apartment homes.
